Phil Foden ‘Will Be One of The Best’ – Silva

Phil Foden is the name on everyone’s lips when it comes to Manchester City this season.

The young, prodigious, and most importantly English midfielder has risen to prominence since the 2017/2018 season.

City manager Pep Guardiola found himself constantly fielding questions about when Phil Foden would play last season. The fervor to see him play regularly will only increase now that the new Premier League season is upon us.

Phil Foden has been compared to Andres Iniesta. He has even been compared to Lionel Messi by Pep Guardiola himself. Foden has made 19 Premier League appearances in his career, 13 of which were last season. He came on towards the end of City’s 5 – 0 opening day win away at West Ham.

His teammate Bernardo Silva was full of praise for Foden when speaking to the BBC on Thursday.

“I just think he’s six years younger than me, but he’s a huge, huge talent,” Silva said.

“If he keeps working as hard as he does every day, because he does work very hard, and if his mentality is good – and he has that – [then in] one, two years he will be one of the best midfielders in the world.

“To go from the second team of Manchester City to the first one, it is a huge step.

“Me, I was from the second team at Benfica, to Monaco, then always growing, and then Manchester City.

“I don’t know what kind of pressure he has, but he enjoys playing football so much and he loves what he does.

“Sometimes you need six more months, sometimes you need one more year, but sooner or later he will be one of the best.”
