Thomas Tuchel Banking On Harry Kane As Final Jigsaw Piece

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel insists the team needs a center forward with links to Harry Kane gathering momentum.

It feels odd to say the defending Bundesliga champions had a disappointing season, but this is the Bayern reality. Yes, they won the league, but only on the last day thanks to a Borussia Dortmund slip up.

The title looked destined for Dortmund and as a result, Bayern’s coronation was somewhat anticlimactic.

Such is their domestic dominance, anything other than running away with the title is considered subpar. Their failure to compete with Manchester City in the Champions League outlines the problems with the squad.

Bayern still hasn’t replaced Robert Lewandoski. Sadio Mane’s transfer hasn’t worked out as they hoped it would.

Reports allege that Bayern officials will meet with Tottenham this week to discuss a deal for Harry Kane. Thomas Tuchel is so set on Kane that young striker Mathys Tel is in limbo regarding his role with the team.

“We will discuss the exact future of Mathys as soon as something changes here and that could be much later in the transfer window,” he said.

Thomas Tuchel is willing to wait until the start of the season for Kane. This would mean he misses Bayern’s preseason and probably the opening few Bundesliga games. It remains to be seen how much more than their initial £70 million bid they will need to pay to secure Kane’s services.

Even if Bayern get their man, not all is rosy in their garden. Munich is a team in the midst of an identity crisis after several head coaching changes. Tuchel is good, but combustible. He could easily fall out with the hierarchy leaving them back at square one.

He could also win so much there he decides it’s time for a new challenge. Meanwhile, Harry Kane waits to find out if he’ll finally get his move to a title-challenging team.
