Laurent Koscielny In Standoff with Arsenal

Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny has potentially ended his Arsenal career in controversy following reports from Thursday morning.

The French international center back has reportedly refused to join Arsenal on their pre season tour of the US. Laurent Koscielny was supposed to travel with the rest of the squad on Thursday.

However, Arsenal released a statement earlier in the day outlining that Laurent Koscielny will not fly to Los Angeles.

It’s important to remember that so far, Arsenal’s statement is all we know about the situation. While it is damning, Koscielny must have long term grievances to be acting so uncharacteristically.

“Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel to the US for our pre-season tour,” a club statement read.

“We are very disappointed by Laurent’s actions, which are against our clear instructions.

“We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time.”

Koscielny didn’t play for Arsenal until December last season. He was recovering from a serious Achilles tendon injury which he sustained against Atletico Madrid last May.

When he did return, he was perhaps overplayed. Although he eventually came back to be Arsenal’s best defender, he was apparently unhappy over his playing time.

At 33 years old, and suffering with chronic tendonitis in his Achilles, Koscielny’s playing time needs to be managed correctly.

Before he got injured, Koscielny said he would probably leave Arsenal at the same time as Arsene Wenger.

His injury prevented him from doing that, as it did from playing for France as they won the World Cup.

Perhaps Koscielny has finally decided to call it quits on his gunners career. The question is, will his relationship with the fans survive?
