All English Champions League Final Too Close To Call

Manchester City will face Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League Final on the 29th of May.

It’s the second time in three years two English teams have contested the Champions League final, and the third time overall.

Chelsea’s first ever Champions League final in 2008 was an all-Premier League affair. They lost out to Manchester United on penalties.

Chelsea won the second time of asking, beating Bayern Munich in the 2012 final. For Manchester City, this is new territory. Despite their dominant decade, this is their first European final in the club’s history.

City have been the favourites for the past five years without ever really going the distance. They are the favourites for the final, too, but there’s something ominous about Chelsea.

City’s FA Cup semifinal loss to Chelsea will linger in their minds. Under Tuchel, Chelsea are solid, efficient, and unerring

Pep Guardiola has so far resisted his proclivity to over think it in Europe. City have played with a newfound defensive nous and maturity, something that has been lacking in the Champions League.

However, this is the biggest test yet of Guardiola’s wonderful mind. It’s his first final in a decade. For Guardiola, who has managed Barcelona, Bayern Munish and Manchester City, this is an under achievement.

Thomas Tuchel, of course, lost the final with PSG last year. Both managers will be desperate to win, and it might come down to who blinks first.

City have the force of the potential to make history on their side. However, that might be a reason for them to choke as much as it is to perform.

It’s too close to call, but there’s just something about Chelsea this year. It might be a tight 1 – 0 win for the Blues.
