What Next For Manchester City After The Treble?

Manchester City established themselves as the greatest football team in modern times with their Champions League final victory on Saturday.

While they didn’t cruise towards victory against Inter Milan, they did rather cruise through their season since January. Their 20-odd game unbeaten run from February propelled them towards the Premier League title and F.A Cup.

Some of the statistics this Manchester City team have produced are staggering. They haven’t conceded more than one goal in a game since January. They were undefeated in this year’s Champions League.

Manchester City have made this crowning achievement feel inevitable. It was, after all, only a matter of time before they finally won the Champions League. Now they have added European triumph to their effortless domestic dominance.

Better yet, they’ve eclipsed local rivals Manchester United’s treble win of 1999. In the wake of the Champions League final, it has emerged that manager Pep Guardiola will leave when his contract expires in 2025.

Scarily, there is still more for this City team to achieve. Next season they have the chance to win the league four years in a row, which has never been done in English football.

They can strive to retain the treble, which has never been done, as well as the Champions League. The ultimate European achievement would be to usurp Real Madrid, who are the only team to win it three years in a row. City are 2/1 favourites to win the Champions League again next year.

They can also go for the quadruple, which would surely be an un-toppable achievement. Considering how frequently they win the league cup, it’s honestly unusual that they didn’t win it and thus the quadruple this year.

The only thing that could stop them next season is some burnout as a result of their monumental year. However, with Erling Haaland scoring 60 goals a season, they’ll probably still clean up.
