Updated Premier League Odds after Matchday 5

After two weeks away, the Premier League finally returned to our screens this past weekend.

The first international break of the season is an odd one. The Premier League season almost begins before we are ready for it. Then, a few games in, we get this jarring two week hiatus.

The season usually begins to take shape after the first international break, as managers and teams set their course after the opening four games.

We take a look at the betting landscape of the Premier League following the Matchday 5 action.

In the most surprising result of the round, Manchester City’s title hopes took a dent. Pep Guardiola’s men were stunned 3 – 2 away at Norwich City, giving up a vital three points in the process. Given the standards set by City and Liverpool last year, any loss could be fatal, and the weekend’s action has many pundits saying that this will be Liverpool’s year.

Liverpool cruised to a 3 – 1 win over Newcastle thanks to two goals from Sadio Mané and one from Mohamed Salah. However, at 7/5, they are not yet the bookies favorite to win the title.

In the race for the top four, all the contenders won apart from Arsenal. Their capitulation at Watford saw them lose a 2 goal lead to draw the game 2 – 2. As a result, they are currently EVENS to finish in the top four.

Chelsea were the biggest winners of the round, winning 5 – 2 at Wolves. A Tammy Abraham Hat-Trick and Mason Mount goal has people praising their youth policy, which was under scrutiny before the break. The Blues are 9/5 to qualify for the Champions League.
