Transfer Window Roundup: Market To Ignite This Week

Every transfer window begins the same way: silence followed by one or two big deals that get the wheels turning.

Normally, it’s the Premier League that pushes the first domino to instigate the buying and selling of players in earnest. Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are on the verge of securing their main targets.

Arsenal appear to be the busiest club and are reportedly about to spend around £200 million on three players.

German international Kai Havertz has completed his medical and is expected to be announced as an Arsenal player this week. However, this transfer window has been dominated by news of Arsenal’s pursuit of Declan Rice.

A week of news about rejected bids and bidding wars was followed by a weekend of silence. Rice is likely to be the biggest transfer of the summer, at least in England. The reporting suggests Arsenal are likely to secure their midfield general for the next five years.

In the meantime, we wait for news. Somewhat under the radar, Arsenal are also working on a deal for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.

Chelsea are signing players as fast as they’re selling them, and Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson officially joined this week. Chelsea are also linked to Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, who looks destined to move to a top four team in this transfer window.

Manchester United are currently negotiating a deal for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount. If he can fulfill his potential at Old Trafford it will prove to be a wise addition.

City were heavily linked with Declan Rice last week, but no bid materialised. Instead, they are moving for Leipzig and Croatia defender Josko Gvardiol for around £100 million. He appears to be their main target of the summer and would join their legions of elite ball-playing defenders.

Expect movement on all these deals next week. The Rice transfer in particular, if completed, will be the one to get the transfer market started.
