Premier League: No Hiding Place In Competitive Landscape

Mega-rich owners aren’t the only thing turning the competitive landscape of the Premier League on its head. There are a number of upstart teams making life difficult for traditional powerhouses like Arsenal and Manchester United.

Tactics, scouting and excellent coaching have all become more democratic than they were before. A team who acts smart on and off the pitch can break the mould and challenge for the European places.

We’re ten games into the current Premier League season – an ideal point to assess the lay of the land. The Premier League table starts to take shape at this point, hinting at what teams are going to go the distance.

Chelsea, Liverpool  and Manchester City are probably the best teams in the world. They’re in a league of their own at the top three positions of the table.

However, the tier below that is yet impossible to separate. There are seven teams with a legitimate claim to the 4th, 5th and 6th positions in the Premier League.

Just six points separate Manchester City in third place and Leicester City in tenth place. Leicester, Everton, Brighton, Tottneham, Arsenal, Manchester United and West Ham are all vying for European qualification.

Thanks to the inconsistency of Manchester United, fourth spot and a place in the Champions League is well and truly up for grabs.

The proliferation of up-and-comers has forced the traditional juggernauts to rethink their strategy. Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have finally undertaken the rebuild that should have happened before Arsene Wenger left the club.
