Manchester United Crash Out Of Europe Entirely

Manchester United saw their European campaign come crashing down with a 1 – 0 home defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

A 71st minute Kingsley Coman goal was enough to seal the win for Bayern. In truth, Manchester United never imposed themselves on the game.

In the other game in the group, FC Copenhaegen beat Galatasaray 1 – 0. Manchester United finish bottom of the group and don’t even drop into the Europa League.

What looked like a favourable group on paper turned into a disaster for Erik ten Hag’s team. They conceded 15 goals, equal with Royal Antwerp for the most conceded in this year’s Champions League group stage.

It raises serious questions about Erik ten Hag’s ability to raise the level at Old Trafford. It raises serious questions about the players as well.

Green Shoots of recovery are perpetually suffocated by inconsistency and poor runs of form. As well as that, the same old players continually underwhelm.

The likes of Fernandes, Rashford, and Martial have let down multiple United managers. Harry Maguire, who had won his place back after ten Hag blatantly tried to shut him out, went down with an injury. Johnny Evans is featuring for the club in the Champions League in 2023. It’s clear Erik ten Hag needs more time, but it is not likely he will be given that time.

United now face a huge game away at Anfield in their next game on Sunday. If there is a positive to take from this, it’s that they can focus on their league campaign. They face competition from Spurs, Newcastle, Villa, and Brighton to qualify for the Champions League next year.
