Manchester City Dispatch Bayern 3 – 0 For 8th Straight Win

The Thomas Tuchel factor wasn’t enough for Bayern Munich as they lost 3 – 0 to Manchester City on Tuesday night.

The result makes their Champions League progression unlikely with the return leg in Munich next week.

Thomas Tuchel has outdone Pep Guardiola on several previous occasions, most notably the 2021 Champions League final. However, with only a couple of weeks at the Bayern helm, his team fell short at the Etihad.

The statistics make it look like an even game, and Bayern actually had more of the possession. City imposed themselves from the first minute, though, and eventually caused the Bayern defense to collapse.

Rodri opened the scoring on 22 minutes with a glorious left footed piledriver into the top corner from the edge of the box.

City put some gloss on the scoreline with goals from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland in the 70th and 76th minutes.

It’s an eighth consecutive victory for an ominous-looking Manchester City team as they head into the end of the season. They’re competing on three fronts and are beginning to look unstoppable.

Yet, the Champions League is not a guarantee. Pep Guardiola’s infamous habit of overthinking his tactics may rear its ugly head again. Although, when you have Haaland there is perhaps no need to overcomplicate things. He is very good at scoring goals – let him score a lot of goals.

From Bayern’s perspective, it hasn’t been an easy introductory couple of weeks for Thomas Tuchel. They were eliminated from the German Cup by Freiburg last week and they have genuine competition for the Bundesliga title this year.

Bayern won’t be able to sustain their usual dominance this season and a Champions League run may have to be sacrificed in order to fend off Borussia Dortmund in the league.
