Italian Serie A Title Race Betting Preview

On the eve of the kickoff of the 2019/2020 Serie A season, excitement is building.

Excitement isn’t something usually associated with Italian football. Their top flight league has a reputation for being overly defensive. As well as that, the last 7 years have been utterly dominated by Juventus, who win the league perennially.

That will all change this season, though. Not only is Juventus now coached by a progressive manager in Maurizio Sarri, they will have challengers for their crown. Napoli and Inter Milan are two teams who could capitalize on the Old Lady’s post-Allegri transition season. Below we preview the first Seria A title race since 2011.

Maurizio Sarri is fond of a complaint, and his latest is that he has too many good players. He’s right, though, and finding a competitive balance while keeping the players happy will be his challenge this season. Nonetheless, with Ronaldo, as well as new additions Ramsey, Rabiot, de Ligt and Demiral, they will be formidable. They are the favourites to win the Serie A title at 4/9.

Sarri needs time to implement his playing style. Therefore it is unfortunate for him that Inter Milan have appointed the ruthless Antonio Conte. Conte is a proven winner who won with Juventus, and won with Chelsea when nobody expected him to. Inter have signed Romelu Lukaku and are reportedly also in for Alexis Sanchez. If Juve start the league poorly, Conte will march into the lead and never let it go. Inter Milan are the third favourites for the title at  6/1.

Napoli are the second favourites at 10/3, and with Carlo Ancelotti, they are serious contenders. Napoli have been the second-best team in the Serie A for a few years now, and they know they need to take their chance. Ancelotti himself has said that with the team they have, it’s time to win something. They have signed Kostas Manolas to partner Kalidou Koudibaly. As well as that, Mexican winger Hirving Lozano joins them in an exciting €40 million move. With the other title candidates transitioning, Carlo Ancelotti’s experienced hands could guide them to glory.

The Seria A season kicks off on Saturday with Parma VS Juventus.
