Gedson Fernandes Joins Tottenham on 18-Month Loan

Portuguese playmaker Gedson Fernades has been announced as Jose Mourinho’s first signing for Tottenham Hotspur. Gedson Fernandes, 21, arrives on an 18-month loan deal from Benfica.

A promising player, Gedson Fernandes has fallen out of favour in Benfica this season. He now has a chance to prove himself on the Premier League stage with Spurs. He says that fellow Portuguese Jose Mourinho was a big factor in his decision to move to North London.

“Every player wants to play in the Premier League and that is a big motivation for me – it’s a dream come true.

“I know the squad because I’ve watched some games, I know Sissoko and Eric Dier because he played in Portugal,” he said.

“All young players want to work with Jose Mourinho because he’s one of the best – it’s fantastic.”

Naturally, Fernandes wants to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot, Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I look up to Cristiano (Ronaldo), he’s Portuguese and he’s breaking all the records, I will try to follow his example.”

Fernandes won’t struggle too badly to adjust to life in England, because his parents already live in London. According to the player, his family left Portugal to find work and a better life.

“It’s a hard story because my family came to London because in Portugal working is very hard and it is difficult to find work.

“They have a good life, this is one more motivation to be here today and the rest of my life.”
