New FIFA technical director Arsene Wenger has made some interesting comments about Rugby ahead of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
In an interview with Bein Sports, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was asked what sports he likes apart from football.
The Frenchman was typically philosophical and erudite in his response. Arsene Wenger clearly hasn’t lost his knack for giving an engaging interview.
In his answer, he cited Rugby as a ‘special sport’, because of the team ethic in the game.

“I like sport in general, what pushes human beings to push himself, to excel, to try to get to his best,” Wenger said.
“That capacity to find inside yourself the resources to produce an excellent performance.
“Above all for me is the magic of the energy together and Rugby is for me a special sport for that because it’s maybe a real team sport. A real team sport that means you have to rely on each other or you die.
“That kind of going without any reluctance together into a fight is something that I like. Football is a bit more individual. Football becomes magic when it becomes really a team sport and it’s not always there. In Rugby it has always to be there.”
News broke on Wednesday night that Wenger is due to be appointed FIFA’s new technical director in the coming days.

The football world had began to wonder if it would ever see Wenger again. Shortly after he left Arsenal, he was adamant that he wanted to coach again and that he would be working again soon.
Almost a year on, Wenger now has an influential role in an organisation that has been historically at odds with his moralistic view of football.
Wenger will have responsibility for improving coaching standards and offering advice on ‘on other areas that directly influence how the game is played’.
