Arsenal Steal Point With 3 Goal Comeback

Arsenal mounted a three goal comeback to steal a point away at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

West Ham United raced into a 3 goal lead before Arsenal got a goal back just before halftime. Arsenal, who looked dead and buried, brought it back to 3 – 3 in the second half.

Either team could have won in what was an illogical, heart-pounding game of football.

Mikel Arteta tinkered with his lineup for the match against his former mentor, David Moyes. He swapped Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang to the right hand side and played Saka on the left. It didn’t work.

For the first 35 minutes, West Ham were all over Arsenal. The Gunners couldn’t get out of their own half and couldn’t string two passes together.

The Hammers are not normally a pressing team, but they harried Arsenal relentlessly. The inevitable happened when Jessie Lingard scored a wonder goal from the edge of the box to make it 1 – 0.

After that, Arsenal fell apart and fell asleep on a West Ham free kick on the edge of their box. Lingard took it quickly and played in Jarrod Bowen, who’s deflected shot went past Leno. 2 – 0 in a matter of minutes.

West Ham scored a third after a cross from the right hand side found Antonio, who crashed a header home.

Alexandre Lacazette pulled one back on the 41st minute with an emphatic turn and finish. It will go down as a Tomas Soucek own goal, but it was good play from the Frenchman in a remarkable performance.

Arsenal got their second with another own goal, Michael Dawson deflecting the ball into his own net from a Callum Chambers cross. Arteta brought on Smith-Rowe and Pepe to push for a third, and got it.

Pepe crossed on his right foot for Lacazette to fire a bullet header home.

An incredible comeback from the Gunners, although they will be kicking themselves for collapsing so badly in the first half.
