Arsenal Closing in on Kieran Tierney

According to reports, Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Celtic left back Kieran Tierney.

The 22 year old Scotland international has been an Arsenal target for quite some time. Apparently, he has been watched by Arsenal since the Arsene Wenger reign. Since then, Arsenal have changed their manager and all their backroom staff.

As well as that, they hired and then fired a head scout / head of recruitment in Sven Mislintat in the space of the year.

So, the fact that Kieran Tierney is still an Arsenal target means that the club are convinced of his quality.

Reports on Sunday suggest that Arsenal have had an opening bid of $15 million rejected by Celtic. Arsenal offered some players as part of the deal including Carl Jenkinson and youth prospects Jordi Osei-Tutu, Emile Smith Rowe or Eddie Nketiah.

David Ornstein confirmed the bid on Twitter, adding that Arsenal are confident of reaching an agreement with Celtic.

“As reported elsewhere Arsenal have had an opening bid of £15m for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney rejected – but there is optimism an agreement will be reached between the clubs, while personal terms for the 22-year-old Scotland international shouldn’t be a problem.”

The next day, reports circulated that Celtic had rejected a second Arsenal bid for Tierney. Celtic are believed to be holding out for their $25 million evaluation of the player.

Arsenal, who need to be smart considering their financial constraints, will naturally try to get the cheapest deal possible.

Arsenal fans will hope that the club can get a deal done quickly. With Nacho Monreal declining, they need a left back, and several other players. Arsenal can no longer afford to dilly dally on deals only to watch their targets sign for other clubs.

The deal for Tierney is simply one of many that Arsenal need to get done, and quickly.
