Mohamed Salah Fit for Russia Clash

Mohamed Salah will be fit to play in Egypt’s next World Cup game against Russia on Tuesday, said his agent.

The star striker for Egypt was apparently fit when Egypt played their first World Cup game against Uruguay. However, the team decided not to take any risks with Mohamed Salah.

Mohamed Salah’s agent Ramy Abass Issa posted a tweet declaring that “Mohamed is fit” on Sunday. The Egyptian FA also confirmed this, saying that Mohamed trained with the rest of the squad on Saturday.

Tarek Hamed, who was substituted due to injury during Egypt’s 1 – 0 defeat to Uruguay, also took part in training.

An additional concern for Egypt is full Ahmed Fathy, who withdrew from training early due to discomfort. No further details on Fathy’s injury have been released as of yet.

Egypt manager Hector Cuper did confirm before the Uruguay game on Friday that Salah was fit. However, he decided not to risk further injury to their talisman although Uruguay’s defence was hard to break down.

The game was a tense and cagey affair. Egypt held their own against the more talented Uruguay until the 89th minute, when Jimenez headed home from a corner.

After that game, Argentinian coach Hector Cuper clarified the situation with Mo Salah:

“Mo Salah is an extremely important player for us, nobody can deny that, but you need to have a good team, and we have a good team.

“Perhaps if Mo had been on the pitch today the outcome would have been different but we can’t know that. Certainly, he has contributed a great amount to the team and will contribute in future matches.

“We wanted to avoid any risks in this match, but I think he will be fine for the next game.”

Russia began their World Cup campaign with a 5 – 0 win over Saudi Arabia. They can secure qualification to the knockout stages with a win over Egypt.
