The Premier League will have an emergency meeting at 1pm Monday to discuss the postponement of a round of fixtures.
The Premier League schedule is in danger of descending into mayhem after six out of ten games were called off over the weekend.
The league is considering suspending all games on Boxing Day as a ‘circuit breaker’. However, the merit of this is currently unknown.
What the managers and players need is some sort of consistency on Covid-19 policy from the Premier League. When Manchester United had their game against Brentford called off in midweek, they had less positive cases than Arsenal had when they requested a postponement of their season opener.

Chelsea applied to have their game against Wolves on the weekend postponed. However, the match went ahead and finished 0 – 0. Thomas Tuchel said that player welfare has to be a priority in decision making.
“We were put in a huge risk of health and safety to the players, not just because of Covid but also physically. I’m not sure if I’ll catch Covid. Hopefully, I will not catch it.”
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has reiterated that the pandemic has shown us how unsustainable the Premier League schedule already is.

“The 26th and the 28th – it’s really not possible. We would prefer to play but we need help with the fixtures. The big thing we all have to talk about is if we can carry on or not, but if we carry on we can’t carry on like usual.
“If we don’t play anymore and we have a break, I’m fine with that too. They said before corona that we were a bit busy. And now corona gives us a proper punch and tells us we can’t carry on like this.”
