The Premier League title race was reignited on Saturday after Manchester City’s surprise 3 – 2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham had Harry Kane to thank for the win over the champions after three successive Premier League defeats. The England striker scored twice, including the winner in the last minute to give Spurs a much needed boost.
It’s a result that seemingly could only happen against City. Spurs were never going to lose games forever, and playing against City, a team Tottenham seem to have a hoodoo over, was a good opportunity to steal a surprise victory.

The result leaves City just 6 points ahead at the top of the Premier League, having played a game more than Liverpool. If Liverpool win their game in hand, there will only be three points between them.
This is the last thing City needed, under pressure from the last team they want to be chasing them. This Liverpool team was forged by their relentless pursuit of Manchester City over two seasons.
The rivalry catapulted them from underdogs to Champions League and Premier League winners. Liverpool will be perfectly happy to chase City, knowing that they have nothing to lose.
City meanwhile, have it all to lose. Given the pressure to also win the Champions League this year, the blues will slip up at some point.

As well as that, City and Liverpool play each other on April 9, a vital point towards the end of the season. Both teams will likely have Champions League quarter and semi finals to contend with around that time.
It will be fascinating to see how it plays out, and if Liverpool can stay within touching distance of City until then. For the league as a whole, it can only be a positive thing that City don’t have the title locked up already.
