Premier League Set For Dramatic Final Day Of The Season

Once Thursday’s fixtures have been played, it will all be set up for a climactic final day of the Premier League season.

As is tradition, all ten games will kick off at the same time – the perfect recipe for final day drama.

Liverpool’s 2 – 1 win over Southampton on Tuesday means the Premier League title race is still alive.

Manchester City must beat Aston Villa, while Liverpool play Wolves. It is in City’s hands, which means Jurgen Klopp will be praying for his rivals to slip up.

Liverpool’s Premier League challenge cannot be spoken of without the context of their entire season. They have the League and F.A Cups under their belt already, and will face Real Madrid in the Champions League final a week later regardless of who wins the league.

I can’t help but wonder if they will either win both, or neither. Win the Premier League, and they have the strongest momentum in history ahead of the Madrid game. Lose out on the final day and perhaps the Champions League final will be a step too far.

Fourth place is yet to be decided, although Arsenal’s two consecutive defeats mean Tottenham would have to lose against Norwich if they have any hope. Spurs have failed spectacularly to finish 4th on the final day on two separate occasions. However, it is fanciful to say the least to think they won’t get the job done.

Everton could be safe from relegation if they win and Burnley lose on Thursday night. If not, the Toffees will add an extra bit of spice to the Arsenal game by needing a result to stay in the league.

In all likelihood, it will be one of Leeds or Burnley who go down. Leeds face Brentford on the final day, while Burnley play Newcastle.
