Mohamed Salah Places Contract Responsibility On Liverpool

Forward Mohamed Salah has once again put the onus on Liverpool to get his contract renewal over the line.

One of the joys of players being on international duty is the insight that can be gained. Speaking to journalists from their own countries, players are often more forthcoming.

Mohamed Salah has a contract which expires in the summer of 2023. He has made many public comments stating that his desire is to stay with Liverpool.

However, there seems to be a gap to close between Mohamed Salah and the club before an agreement can be reached.

“I want to stay, but it’s not in my hands. It’s in their hands,” Salah told GQ. “They know what I want. I’m not asking for crazy stuff.”

“The thing is, when you ask for something, and they show you they can give you something [they should] because they appreciate what you did for the club.

“I’ve been here for my fifth year now. I know the club very well. I love the fans. The fans love me. But with the administration, they have [been] told the situation. It’s in their hands.”

Salah is arguably the best player in the world right now. However, reports suggest he is only the 5th highest player in the world.

The 29-year-old is looking to be rewarded for his role in Liverpool’s Champions League and Premier League winning seasons.

A weekly wage of around £300,000 a week has been mooted, which would make him the highest earner at Anfield. Currently, Virgil van Djik is Liverpool’s top earner.

While Liverpool are not quite an aging squad yet, they will be soon. A rebuild is on the cards, and it would be a travesty not to secure the services of Salah for his last years at the top of the game.
