France striker Kylian Mbappe would appear to be, finally, on his way out of PSG but maybe not until 2024.
Kylian Mbappe informed PSG he did not intend to sign a new contract in June. His current deal expires in 2024 and he has refused to take up an additional 12-month option.
PSG say Kylian Mbappe has to sign the extension or be sold this summer. Obviously, the club cannot lose a player like that for free. However, they may not have a choice, despite the July 31 deadline they’ve placed on him.

This isn’t the first time Mbappe has threatened to leave PSG. Attempted moves to his apparent destiny – Real Madrid, have all ended with a new contract in Paris.
This time it appears to be final, if the bullish tone from PSG Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi is anything to go by. Al-Khelaifi visited PSG’s new training ground on Tuesday and his speech to the players mirrored what he said to the press.
“It is important to tell you that the coach has the power to do what he wants, he is the one who decides. We are all in the same direction, with Luis Enrique, Luis Campos and the staff.
“The club is bigger than anyone here. Even taller than me. I expect you to be 200 per cent in training.”
Whether his stance is all for show or not, it’s about time someone at PSG said that. Players have too much power there and this is why Mbappe hasn’t moved yet.

Mbappe can behave how he likes and make as much money as he likes because he’s one of the best players in the world. He should probably be the best player in the world at this point, though. Staying in Ligue 1 until he’s 25 is a little odd for a player so clearly destined for greatness.
One issue is the fact that his superstar personality and mind-boggling wages limit his number of potential new teams to two. Real Madrid and Manchester City would rather wait to sign him on a free. Mbappe would prefer that as well, because that’s the best way to make the most money.
Whether this is resolved now or in a year, it needs to be resolved soon. One of the world’s biggest talents is in danger of never truly taking off.
