Jurgen Klopp On Top 4 Race: This Is Not Dreamland

Manager Jurgen Klopp says it’s ‘not a quick fix’ on Merseyside after Liverpool slipped further away from fourth place.

Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea leaves Liverpool eighth in the table, seven points adrift from Champions League qualification.

The conventional wisdom is that his squad needs to be refreshed and move onto the next cycle. Without the Champions League, or any European competition at all next season, that would be an immense task.

“Of course it’s an absolutely rubbish situation that nobody wants to be in but we are in.

“This is not dreamland. Just because I’m Jurgen Klopp it doesn’t mean I don’t have any problems…

“I have no problem with fighting through this. I just know because we do it in public people obviously get annoyed and frustrated about my answers and I cannot change that.

“This is not a quick fix otherwise we would’ve fixed it already. I didn’t lose my football brain overnight if I ever had one.

“This is our situation and we have to deal with it in our way. Some clubs deal with it differently with it and our club wants to do it different. We have to do that, it’s no problem at all. It’s okay, and from here we go.”

“Nil-nil. Not the most spectacular one, but a step for us. A little step, but a step in the right direction.

“I don’t expect us to have no confidence, but I know we have to put the hard work first. It’s not a situation where you go out with backheels and one-twos. We have to fight through. I know that’s not what people want to hear, but you cannot change that.

“I saw a really good attitude from my team tonight and that’s what I wanted to see. This is the basis for the rest of the season.”

It’s not about to get any easier for Liverpool with a visit from league leaders Arsenal up next. Fail to win that, and this season could go from disappointing to potentially disastrous.
