Both Arsenal and Tottenham won over the weekend, meaning the Champions League race is too close to call.
It looks as though who finished 4th will be decided by the North London Derby on May 12th. A top 4 decider between two teams who shouldn’t be in this position.
Arsenal, who lost their first three games of the season, find themselves two points ahead in 4th. Spurs have been a laughing stock at times this year but still haven’t gone away.
At this point, it’s going to come down to who can limp over the line with the least amount of calamity.

Before the North London Derby, though, both teams face a pivotal weekend. Tottenham travel to Anfield on Saturday, in what is the game they’re most likely to drop points in.
Arsenal then play Leeds on Sunday. If Spurs drop points at Anfield, Arsenal could open up a gap on them ahead of the derby. Such a swing would mean Arsenal could afford to lose at Tottenham and still qualify for the Champions League.
As they are finding however, there are no easy games at this point in the season. Leeds have been dragged back into the relegation fight, meaning they will be motivated when they visit the Emirates. It’s a classic banana slip game.

Rather painfully for Gunners fans, Tottenham are actually the grown ups in this scenario. Arsenal are probably the more coherent team, but they lack experience. Spurs aren’t the most impressive team, but in Kane and Son they have two prime goalscorers who can get them over the line.
A season of twists and turns comes down to the final few games, and the North London Derby will be a game of existential importance for both sides. How are your nerves?
