Not even Roman Abramovic had three managers in the same season. At this point it’s difficult to tell if the new ownership is floundering or if the institutional chaos at Stamford Bridge is too firmly embedded for anyone to dispel.

It’s apt that the Champions League is all Chelsea have to play for this season, because this has happened before. To Frank Lampard in fact, when he won the Champions League under caretaker manager Roberto di Matteo.
His first Champions League match pits Lampard against another of his former Chelsea managers in Carlo Ancelotti. If he makes it past him, he could face Thomas Tuchel, the manager who replaced him when he was fired by Chelsea the first time.

Lampard has previously told the story of how the dressing room resolved to win the Champions League during the di Matteo season. With nothing else to play for and a chaotic managerial situation, they saved their season in the most glorious way.
Is there a chance Lampard can evoke some of that energy this time around? Does Todd Boehly think so? At this point, he may as well try it.
