Euro 2024 kicks off with Germany VS Scotland on Friday, and it’s a peculiar tournament this time around.
While there are good teams and the usual contenders are present, there isn’t a clear favourite for Euro 2024.
Paddy Power has England as the favourites to win the tournament, followed by France, Germany and Portugal.

England – 7/2
They thought it was coming home last time around, but fell just short. This year, however, it could just be England’s year. They certainly have the players, but their success will depend on their harmony. England have Kane, Saka, Foden and Rice – they are ready to win now. However, public perception on Gareth Southgate has soured. If he can make people believe in this team one last time, they could win it. That is an admittedly uphill battle, though.
France 4/1
France would be the two-time world champions were it not for the destiny of Lionel Messi. As well as that, they have Kylian Mbappe – newly minted Real Madrid superstar. The only doubt about them is their patchy form, with only two wins in their last five games. It will be worth keeping an eye on the situation of William Saliba, as well. He won’t begin the tournament as a starter, but he is tipped to end the tournament as one.

Germany – 9/2
Quite simply, Germany have to have a good tournament. They are the hosts, and they have some making up to do for the era that followed their world-champion one. Germany fell away big time after dominating international football. In 2024, they have one of the best squads in the tournament. One of football’s biggest international teams could be about to wake up.
Portugal – 6/1
True to form, Portugal arrive at Euro 2024 with one of the most inexplicably high-quality squads in Europe. They just stockpile incredible players, and 19-year-old sensation Joao Neves is the latest Portuguese player to burst onto the scene. The status of Cristiano Ronaldo will be interesting here. There appears to be an acceptance from Ronaldo that he serves the team better as a bench option. In this writers’ opinion, that makes Portugal a formidable team.
