Denmark VS Wales

Wales have once again captured the hearts of neutrals after qualifying for the knockout round. They face Denmark, who will have the goodwill of all spectators after what happened to Christian Eriksen. Without their talisman, Denmark lack the star quality needed in big games. That’s exactly what Wales have with Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey. Can Wales do it again?

Italy VS Austria

Italy are the adopted favourites of many after their impressive start to the tournament. Playing with an attacking style previously unseen in Italian international football, they look ominous. Austria did well to qualify, but will likely come unstuck against the Italians.

Netherlands VS Czech Republic

Holland have impressed so far and scored a lot of goals. However, there is a consensus they will lose as soon as they come up against one of the best teams. The Czech republic isn’t that, but they’re solid. They’re better than people expected them to be and Patrick Schick has lit up the tournament.

Belgium VS Portugal

Easily the most mouthwatering game of the round, a powerhouse will be eliminated on Sunday. Will it be reigning European champions Portugal, or will Belgium’s golden generation waste their last chance to win something?

Croatia VS Spain

An interesting tie, intellectually, that will be contested by two teams whose best days are behind them. Spain are still playing 2010 football without the 2010 behemoths. Croatia’s aging team is led by 35 year old Luka Modric, who has proved he still has big moments in him.

France VS Switzerland

A favourable draw for the World Champions. This could be the perfect game for them to ease into the knockout stages. Against Portugal, Karim Benzema came back to life in a blue shirt with two goals. He could fill his boots against a solid Switzerland who likely won’t have an answer to France’s quality.

England VS Germany

Two old enemies face off and for the first time in years, England are the favourites. Germany is widely considered to be at the end of their cycle. Their talented young team hasn’t yet found it’s groove, as demonstrated by the loss, win and draw that saw them through to the round of 16. England have been solid if unspectacular, and will fancy a chance to knock Germany out.

Sweden VS Ukraine

An evenly matched game that neutrals will hope goes Ukraine’s way. Neither side has much in terms of excitement. However with Zinchenko and Yarmolenko, Ukraine at least have some flair in the team. Sweden will be obdurate opponents and look to steal a 1 – 0 win.
