Both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are suffering something of a Champions League hangover in the competition’s group stage this season.
Last year’s finalists both have a challenge on their hands to qualify from their groups following questionable performances so far.
Tottenham in Group B have one point after two games, five behind first placed Bayern Munich. Spurs disappointingly gave away a 2 – 0 lead against Olymiacos in their first group game in Greece.
Then on Tuesday, they were dismantled 2 – 7 at home by a rampant, Serge Gnabry-inspired Bayern Munich. It’s not unfamiliar territory for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

Last year, they found themselves needing a result at the Nou Camp to qualify in their final group game. They got an unlikely draw, and ended up reaching the final, which they lost to Liverpool.
As a result, they are still nailed on to qualify for the group at 1/9, and 20/1 second favourites to win the group.
However, Tottenham have issues this season and face stiff competition. Spurs are nowhere near the bookies favourites to win the Champions League, with 33/1 odds.
Defending champions Liverpool are not in such a bad way, but their Wednesday win over RB Salzburg was telling.
Having been 3 – 0 up within 36 minutes, they had conceded 3 goals by the 60th minute. Mohammed Salah’s 69th minute winner saved their blushes, but considering they lost their first game 2 – 0 away at Napoli, they have yet to convince that they remain the European force that they have been over the last two seasons.

Liverpool are still the 8/13 favourites to qualify from Group E. They are joint-second favourites to win the competition at 6/1, behind Manchester City at 3/1.
