England, Switzerland, Holland, Turkey, Portugal, France, Germany and Spain remain in the tournament. There is absolutely a favourable side of the draw, too.

Germany, Spain, France and Portugal will be busy annihilating each other. That leaves a chance for one of England, Switzerland, Holland and Turkey to reach the final.

England VS Switzerland

There is much consternation in the English press. However, England aren’t doing anything different to what they normally do in tournaments under Southgate. They’re keeping it tight and playing on the margins of games, winning in extra time or on penalties. The disappointment is a team of genuine world stars still isn’t playing well. This is a concern ahead of playing Switzerland who have their act together. England need to perform on Friday or else Switzerland will knock them out.

Netherlands VS Turkey

The Netherlands should beat Turkey, but then Austria should have as well. Turkey have just enough excitement in their team to worry any opponent. The Netherlands, meanwhile, have been fine. Not great, not poor, just fine. If they maintain their fine-ness, they should advance from the Euro 2024 quarter finals.

Spain VS Germany

This is undoubtedly the tie that neutrals and all the other teams would have been hoping for. One of the favorites will be eliminated before the semi final stage. Spain look like the best all-round team of the tournament so far. Germany have quality and look competent, without looking exactly like world beaters. This will probably go to penalties.

Portugal VS France

In a repeat of the Euro 2016 final, Portugal face France in the Euro 2024 Quarter finals. There is not a lot more we can say about France – they are boring, they have Mbappe, they keep winning. Portugal meanwhile have an existentially crisis-ing Cristiano Ronaldo on their hands. He was in tears after his penalty was saved against Slovenia. It’s going to be all about him, but he may not be capable of shouldering that anymore.
