Premier League Clubs are reportedly privately discussing postponing the season for two weeks due to Covid-19.
The revelation comes after the Premier League last week recorded the highest number of positive cases (18) since testing began.
Manchester City, Arsenal, Sheffield United, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham have all confirmed positive cases. Wednesday’s game between Tottenham and Fulham is still in doubt following Fulham’s cases.
In total, there have been 131 positive cases this season, which is only 0.5 percent of over 26,000 tests. However, the combination of the third wave of the virus and a variant strain, cases are rising.

On Tuesday, a record 53,125 number of new cases were reported, 12,000 more than on Monday.
The Premier league is reportedly not in favor of a postponement. New West Brom manager Sam Allerdyce has called for the break.
“When I listen to the news the variant virus transmits quicker than the original virus, we can only do the right thing which is have a circuit break,” Allardyce said.
“I am 66 years old and the last thing I want to do is catch Covid. I’m very concerned for myself and football in general. If that’s what needs to be done we need to do it.
“We had one positive this week and it seems to be creeping around no matter how hard we try.”

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder, however, believes play should continue. This is despite ‘half a dozen’ Sheffield players and staff testing positive for the virus.
“It’s not an ideal situation but I don’t think we’re a club of one,” Chris Wilder said
“It (the virus) is picking up and it’s running high at football clubs.
“We just notified the relevant authorities that we’ve had a situation at the football club. But I want to play football. That’s how it is, we’re not looking to get anything canned. We did the right thing as far as our responsibility to the Premier League and notified them regarding the players that are ill.”
